A wide - field K – band survey . The luminosity function of galaxies
We present the first determination of the near-infrared K−band luminosity function of field galaxies from a wide field K−selected redshift survey. The best fit Schechter function parameters are M∗ = −23.12 + 5log(h), α = −0.91, and φ∗ = 1.66 × 10h Mpc. We estimate that systematics are no more than 0.1mag in M∗ and 0.1 in α, which is comparable to the statistical errors on this measurement. Subj...
متن کاملA wide - field K - band survey - II . Galaxy clustering
We present the first measurement of the angular correlation function in a K-selected galaxy survey, from two fields covering almost 10 square degrees. The angular correlation function at small angles is well described by a θ −0.8 power law, as for optically selected samples. The clustering amplitude is reduced by a factor of ∼ 4 between galaxies with K < 15 and a fainter magnitude slice with 15...
متن کاملClustering of K-band selected local galaxies
We present detailed clustering analysis of a large K-band selected local galaxy sample, which is constructed from the 2MASS and the SDSS and consists of 82, 486 galaxies with 10 < K < 13.5 and 0.01 < z < 0.1. The two-point correlation function of the magnitude-limited sample in real space at small scales is well described by a power law ξ(r) = (r/6.44 ± 0.23). The pairwise velocity dispersion i...
متن کاملThe K-band luminosity function of nearby field galaxies
We present a measurement of the K-band luminosity function (LF) of field galaxies obtained from near-infrared imaging of a sample of 345 galaxies selected from the Stromlo-APM Redshift Survey. The LF is reasonably well fitted over the 10-mag range 226 < MK < 216 by a Schechter function with parameters a 21:16 ^ 0:19; M* 223:58 ^ 0:42 and f* 0:012 ^ 0:008 Mpc, assuming a Hubble constant of...
متن کاملThe WSRT wide - field H survey II . Local Group features ⋆
We have used the Westerbork array to carry out an unbiased wide-field survey of H emission features, achieving an sensitivity of about 18 mJy/Beam at a velocity resolution of 17 km s−1 over 1800 deg2 and between −1000 < VHel < + 6500 km s−1. The primary data consists of auto-correlation spectra with an effective angular resolution of 49 FWHM. The survey region is centered approximately on...
